Wyndham James China Programme Director
|
Wyndham's career had been dedicated to issues of social justice. Founded on development work and adding expertise in advocacy and fundraising, he developed considerable experience in leading and shaping strategy and organisational performance. He has led and managed diverse teams of staff in a number of countries. He worked more recently to apply the potential of markets and the private sector to benefit disadvantaged producers in developing countries and in creating social enterprises. Wyndham worked extensively in the early development of Oxfam International helping draft its constitution and in leading the development of its first media strategy and first internet strategy. He then founded Oxfam Germany as a stand alone member of Oxfam International and created the strategic, managerial, legal and financial frameworks for effective operations, as well as the fundraising, advocacy and media relations elements of the work. The work included creating support within influential institutions; identifying, developing and leading early stakeholders; creating governance and accountability structures and forums and handing over to a German team. He has since worked in support of Oxfam Japan, the creation of Oxfam France and in developing relations with a potential member in South Korea. Previous to this Wyndham worked in creating Oxfam’s development programme in West Africa and worked with the World Health Organisation in Laos for 5 years. He is 60 and speaks a number of languages, including fluent French; reasonable Lao and Spanish/Portuguese; working German. He has a Masters Degree in Community Health from the University of Liverpool and a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition from the University of London. He took the post of Save the Children China Programme Country Director since July 2007.

Zhao Zhonghua Head of Programmes Division

A graduate of Yunnan Normal University, Zhao Zhonghua worked eight years as teacher and Director of Teaching in Southwest China. He joined Save the Children in 1999 as Education Officer serving in several roles before becoming Acting Deputy Director of Programmes in 2005. In 2006 Zhao Zhonghua traveled to the UK where he had spent a year studying for an MA in Democracy, Politics and Governance at the Royal Holloway College, University of London, with a Chevening Scholarship awarded by the UK government. Zhao Zhonghua returned to China in September 2007 and since then worked as the Head of Programmes Division of Save the Children UK China Programme. He has since then taken responsibility for ensuring effective management and coordination of Save the Children’s programme work in the areas where Save the Children is operational.

Li Ping Head of Policy & Communications Division
|
As Head of Policy & Communications Division, Li Ping leads responsibility for programme policy, research, advocacy and communications activities within Save the Children China built from a Child Rights Situation Analysis focused on the poor and most marginalised children in China. She is responsible for developing relationships with key stakeholders including the government, the public, the academic, voluntary supporters, international aid agencies and other non-government organizations, thereby building support for Save the Children’s development in China. Prior to this role Li Ping has held numerous roles including Advocacy & Fundraising Coordinator, and Child Rights Project Manager for Save the Children, China, specializing in children’s rights. Li Ping began her career in 1988 as an English teacher, for 4 years, in Yunnan province, China, and subsequently in a Yunnan province based Import & Export Company for a similar period of time. Li Ping holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature from Yunnan University, China, and a LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex, UK

Zhang Hong has worked at Save the Children China Programme for more than 10 years, currently serving as the head of Human Resources and Operations Division, with overall responsibility for HR management and development, legal affairs, and administrative operations.

John Giszczak Head of Funding Division |
John was recruited by Save the Children in May, 2008 to lead a newly created Funding Division inside the China Program. The division’s mission is to provides support to all programme teams in fundraising and grant management, through research, networking, training and hands-on assistance. Prior to joining Save the Children he worked as the Grants Manager for a US-based foundation where he was posted in Qinghai managing small grants to local Tibetan organizations there and in other Tibetan-inhabited regions. Prior to that John also served as the Director of Education Programs for an American NGO working in western Sichuan. He completed a B.A. in International Relations at the James Madison College of Michigan State University in 2003, and a M.A. in Asian Studies with a focus on China at the University of Michigan in 2005. During both programs much of John’s coursework and research interests were focused of international development, with a particular interest in China. His Master’s thesis used data from the Gansu Survey of Children and Families to examine early risk factors for children dropping out of school later in life. John is also highly proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Barbara Bale Newborn and Child Survival Director |
In 1989, following clinical practice in the UK and Hong Kong, Barbara began her development career with Save the Children UK in Hong Kong helping to provide community health services to Vietnamese asylum seekers and refugees. At that time the Hong Kong office also hosted the China Programme. Captivated by all things Vietnamese, Barbara joined Save the Children US in Viet Nam in 1996 based in Ha Noi. Broadening the focus of the programme to include maternal as well as child health was a key objective and entailed some hard work and adventures in the mountains and deltas of Viet Nam. The next few years saw Barbara work mainly on reproductive and child health with a variety of health and development organisations including WHO, UNFPA, PATH and CARE, mostly in Viet Nam but occasionally in Myanmar too. In 2006 Barbara moved to Cambodia and worked on a cross border migration project as well as projects addressing avian influenza, TB, maternal-child health and health financing. Returning to Save the Children in 2009 as the Newborn and Child Survival Director for the China Programme feels like her destiny! Barbara has an honours degree in Nursing from Sheffield, a master’s degree in Medical Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and is a registered midwife.

Jigme Tibet Programme Manager |
Jigme joined Save the Children in January 1993, currently working in the capacity of Tibet Programme Manager in the Tibet Office of the SC China Programme. Prior to his current role as the Tibet Programme Manager, Jigme worked in various capacities - as watsan sectoral programme officer, coordinator and liaison chief. In addition to solid, long-term grassroots empirical experience in community-based programmes, he has demonstrable experience in strategic programme planning, development and management. More recently, he has started to take an additional responsibility - a new dimension to his work - as the SC Emergency Leader for the China country programme. Jigme has a Masters degree in International Development from the University of Manchester in the UK. He used to teach English in Tibet in the early 90s. Reading and listening to classical, traditional, pop and folk music are his favourite hobbies. He also takes interest in audio-visual material editing work.

I used to work for Xinjiang Regional Government in foreign affairs for more than thirty years, and during that time I had worked in the Chinese Embassy as diplomat for five years as well. I joined Save the Children in 2006. I am so happy to work for children, and I like to serve in SC UK which has long history and height reputation in the world, especially to be one of the staff in China Programme which is a wonderful team. My work is not easy but definitely the most exciting. I am a responsible and motional person. I enjoy working, and reading and staying with my family.

Wang Le Shanghai Programme Development Manager |
Wang Le, is an energetic lady with a very positive attitude towards both her work and personal life. She serves as our Shanghai Programme Development Manager. She is currently working on setting up and developing the new urban programme in Shanghai. She joined the SC family in 2007 as the Tibet Deputy Programme Manager with responsibility for the supervision of the support function within the Tibet Programme office. Recently, she has been nominated as the regional Child Safeguarding Champion for South East and East Asia region as well. Prior to joining SC she worked in Namibia on an Early Childhood Care Development project. She has more than 5 years business development and management experience in international education collaborations. She has always been interested in development work and started volunteering with different organisation as long ago as 2001. Her previous working experience in many different countries and regions has given her many unique skills to work in a multi-culture environment. She holds a Bachelor in Business Studies (Accounting) from Charles Sturt University, Australia and a Master in Management of Development from University of Turin, Italy. Wang Le likes traveling and trekking. She is married to a real mountain trekker and movie lover.

Pelma Dekyi as a fellow of Ford Foundation International Fellowship Programme graduated from Duke University, and was awarded a Master of Arts in International Development Policy. She has worked for a number of International NGOs and a Foreign Profit Company in China. She has been working as an independent development consultant for different organizations. Pelkyi enjoys travelling, cycling, listening to music and contemporary art.
