TITLE:  Education Project Officer

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Shanghai

LOCATION: Shanghai

GRADE: 5

CONTRACT LENGTH: Fix Term

POST STATUS: National


CHILD SAFEGUARDING: (select only one)

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

 

ROLE PURPOSE: 

To implement the project that reaches the most vulnerable children (aged 8-14) in Shanghai to help them develop social and emotional skills and digital skills that they need to thrive in the 21st century.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Reports to: Education Project Manager

Role Dimensions

  • Regular contact with external stakeholders such  as education bureau and schools and with International Technical Advisor,  Funding, Finance, Admin, and other departments within the organization.

 

Regular working within Shanghai City and roughly 5 days per quarter travel.

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 

  • Implement project activities such as curriculum  development, teacher training, and monitoring and evaluation.

  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation for the  project, including developing the logframe and the monitoring and evaluation plan, visiting project schools on a regular basis to assess  progress and support teachers.

  • Maintain good relationship and regular contact with project partners.

  • Update the detailed implementation plan and phased budget for the project. 

  • Work on logistics, procurement and contracts for  the project.

  • Manage interns, volunteers and consultants.

  • Develop information, education and communication materials for the project. 

  • Maintain timely and effective communication with International Technical Advisor, Funding, Finance, Admin, and other departments within  the organization.

  • Support the budget holder to prepare high quality  donor reports and funding proposals in English.  

  • Keep abreast of current education policy and practices at global, national, provincial and local levels.

  • Contribute to the planning and design of the projects.

  •  Support the effective integration of child rights, child participation and protection principles into projects.


  • Comply with the requirements of Save the  Children’s child safeguarding and other policies.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor degree or above in education, psychology, development, social work or other related fields.


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • One year’s work experience in education, social and emotional learning, digital education, social work or other NGO work-related fields. Fresh graduate with solid related internship experience is also considered.

  • Excellent Chinese and English communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, ability to multitask and meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

  • Experience in working with children aged 6-14.

  • Proven ability to independently implement project activities.

  •  Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization and with various stakeholders.

  • Excellent report writing and analysis skills.

  • Willing and be able to travel regularly to fields and work in difficult environments according to travel requirements.

  •  Able to carry out all appointed work in a non-political and non-discriminatory manner.

  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

  • Willingness and capability to comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the Child Safeguarding Policy.



Desirable

  • Proven ability to train and coach teachers or caregivers.

  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation.

  • Experience in child development work or iNGO.
